This course is designed for non-financial, senior business executives who have regular contact with financial executives and who need to develop an understanding of finance and accounting in their professional roles. The course therefore strives to develop a general understanding on how your decisions and actions affect your company profitability and cash flow. It has been designed to reflect the current financial and economic situation facing companies in the local market.

In addition to covering fundamental concepts in finance, the course will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of how funding decisions have an impact on the value of the organisation and will complete the course with the ability to integrate financial measures into their business decision making. This is highly applied course that will allow delegates to apply immediately their new technical knowledge directly to their professional responsibilities.

By the end of the course, the delegates will have a detailed and applied understanding of:

  • Developing an understanding of core financial and accounting principles
  • The importance of budgeting in terms of financial control in business
  • Using the company’s financial statements to develop your business area
  • Understanding and applying key financial ratios and drivers to assess the performance of your business area and its value added to your company
  • What is meant by EBITDA, its uses but why is does not spell cash flow
  • Reviewing the importance of liquidity, working capital and cash flow management in business and its importance over profitability
  • Reviewing key terms and financial concepts for discussions with bankers and investors in order to raise external sources of finance
  • Assessing how to calculate the company’s working capital financing needs and what bankers seek from the company in providing working capital finance
  • Modelling a 13 week cash flow forecast to ensure a smooth operation
  • Detailed analysis of the cash flow statement and its central use in forecasting the company’s ability to repay debt
