This 3 day interactive training course takes a deeper dive into the GSS (ESG) capital markets. Delegates will obtain insights into the rapidly developing Green, Sustainable and Sustainability-linked bond markets and will explore how international practice can be further adopted/adapted within the Saudi market.
Sovereign, corporate and financial institutions/asset managers are responding to governmental, investor and environmental activists who require a strategic company position to be taken towards climate change, worsening social conditions post-pandemic and governance issues. KSA has taken a leadership position within the GCC in the prioritisation of a movement towards meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This was evidenced, as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative.
European Sustainability-linked bonds (SLBs) issuance has increased from US$ 5 billion (2019) to US$ 31 billion (2021) and demonstrates the increasing success of being more inclusive as SLBs provide considerable flexibility for the issuer to select innovative pathways to satisfy their business’ key ESG performance objectives. By linking a company’s cost of capital to sustainability KPIs, a strong organizational incentive is created to meet ESG targets and accelerate positive impact.
This course will consider best international practice and provide insights into how Green, Sustainable and SLBs are structured, marketed and managed. The trainer utilises his experiences and anecdotes as a loan and capital market professional for the EBRD may include a discussion with an issuer or investor. The International Capital Market Association’s (ICMA) bond principles will be used to underpin the learning and case studies.
