This practical management accounting course provides corporate executives and SME managers with a range of applied management accounting tools used to increase internal financial control for financial planning and long-term strategic development of the company. The programme therefore covers a number of internationally applied budgeting and costing techniques which will allow the management team to create budgeting systems tailored to their own company needs. This programme will also develop different pricing and costing techniques applied in excel models so that corporate managers can apply these directly following attendance of the course.

This course has been designed by accounting specialists and SME owner/managers who have developed their own applied budgeting and costing systems for the successful development of their companies. By attending the course, the developments can not only gain valuable and applied knowledge and techniques for the improvement of their own budgeting systems, but they can also share a wealth of business experience with other corporate managers and owners.

Having attended the course, the delegates will have:

  • A detailed understanding of different types of classic and modern budgetary costing techniques to apply to their own operations and financial internal control
  • Knowledge of how to apply appropriate budgeting methods including and rolling budgets, activity-based budgeting to improve profitability and decision making
  • An applied knowledge of Limiting factor analysis and break-even analysis when seeking to maximise return from the company’s limited resources and factors of production.
  • How to use marginal pricing and marginal costing to maximise return and profitability, particularly in terms of one-off project development and for short term decision making
  • Ability to create a full cost register for company to increase payment control and to help in managing working capital, liquidity and cash flows
  • Assessing the difference between standard absorption costs & new budgeting techniques
  • Using target costing to reduce product and project risk and to maximise company return
  • Short and long term variance analysis and applying lessons learned
  • Application of pricing and costing techniques to the creation of a budget in excel
  • Reviewing the principals of performance measurement and management
